16th Avenue Tiled Steps
Movement is an important part of staying healthy and making sure every part of your body continues to perform at optimal levels. It puts our life in motion. Movement helps relieve stress, clear your mind and … burn those calories.
Nothing screams movement like climbing stairs. And what better stairs to climb than the 16th Avenue Tiled Steps in San Francisco, CA.

Human movement is a fundamental part of life. Movement keeps us healthy, in addition to improving circulation and boosting our metabolism. It is critical to living a longer life and maintaining — or losing — weight. The less we move, the less productive we are. The more active we are the more productive we are. So why not find more ways to move and do it more often?
Constructed in 2005, this 163 step stairway exemplifies the heights and beauties of San Francisco. Created by Jessie Audette, Alice Yee Xavier and artists Aileen Barr and Colette Crutcher, the stairs consist of 163 mosaic panels with a sea-to-stars theme flowing up the stairway. On your trip up (or down) the stairs you’ll find fish, shells and animals within the mosaic.
The stairway is popular among fitness enthusiasts (we love stairs), but adored by all because of its beautifully-colored tiles and mood-arousing display of life. The next time you are in San Francisco, head on over to the 16th Avenue Tiled Steps and scale this giant vibrant piece of art.
