Review
What is it?
The Bowflex SelectTech 840 Kettlebell is an adjustable kettlebell that ranges from 8 pounds to 40 pounds in weight with the turn of a dial. It’s made very well with a firm ergonomic handle and a plastic shell that houses the weighted plates. The dial is of high quality and turns with ease.
The Bowflex SelectTech 840 Kettlebell combines convenience, versatility and portability into a small 40-pound piece of equipment. The handle is wide and smooth. It moves easily in your hand for varies exercises such as swings and cleans. We did notice, however, that the handle is thinner than a standard cast iron kettlebell, but it’s not a deal breaker. Also, if you use chalk when you workout, it doesn’t hold well on the handle … Liquid chalk worked better. In terms of use, the kettlebell works great. It’s comfortable to use, easy to add or subtract weight and — like all kettlebells — very versatile for exercise selection.
The Lowdown:
The kettlebell maxes out at just 40 pounds. There are a lot of things you can do with 40 pounds of weight but it will only take you so far. As you workout you will become stronger and better conditioned. The maximum 40-pounds on the kettlebell is fine initially, but if you want to continue progressing you’ll need more weight. If you’re going to purchase a Bowflex SelectTech 840 Kettlebell, we recommend buying two. This allows you to perform exercises with a single kettlebell or both at the same time. You can also add different variations to exercises like goblet squats, swings, presses, push-ups, etc. In addition, you’ll have a total of 80 pounds to work with. In this case, two is definitely better than one.
Overall, we really like the kettlebell. It’s small enough to store anywhere in your house or throw it in your car if you wanted to travel. Being a kettlebell, you can perform a trillion different exercises with it. However, we don’t recommend this being your main piece of workout equipment. It’s great as an addition to your home gym but not solely as your home gym. Nevertheless, if this is all you have or all you choose to use then go crush it. See where it takes you and then decide if you want to progress beyond those results.
What people are saying
What they like:
“You are getting a lot of bang for you buck. You get six kettlebells in one and save space.”
What they don’t like:
“The handle is thinner than your typical kettlebell. I wish it was thicker and a little bit wider.”
Conclusion
The Bowflex SelectTech 840 Kettlebell is a great option for anyone looking to add kettlebells to their home gym and want to save space. We love how compact it is and how well it’s made. It can not endure the same abuse that cast iron kettlebells can, but it can handle a ton of use and will last.
Selecting weight with the dial is really smooth and the overall use of the kettlebell is comfortable. We think that if you’re in the market for a kettlebell and want to keep things compact with your living space, then the The Bowflex SelectTech 840 Kettlebell gets a thumbs up.
