Review:

The Hypervolt massage gun made by Hyperice is hands down the best massage gun on the market. It’s popular among NBA players and NFL players to stay loose during games. It’s also the preferred massager among our training community here in New York City. Now that we got that out of the way, let’s get into it.

The Hypervolt is massager designed to relieve muscle pain and stiffness, improve range of motion and blood flow to areas of need. It comes with four interchangeable attachments that are easy to pop on and off. Each one designed for a different effect. The Hypervolt can work every region of the body and create outstanding improvements for achy muscles. The massager is comfortable to use both in your hand and receiving the massage. Its design allows for multiple grips for better angles around the body.

Does it Work?

The short answer is yes. We have used the Hypervolt on many different clients and every single one of them love it. In fact, they request it so much that we just made it part of our routine. Some of them actually went out and bought one for themselves. It’s that good.

How to Use It?

The Hypervolt is pretty self-explanatory. However, we’ll make some suggestions to you to improve your experience. The Hypervolt has three speeds. If you have a tight muscle, especially if it’s around a bone, try not to start out on max power. Find the area of discomfort and ease into it. Your muscles respond better when they are warmed up and not forced to react. Also, don’t just work the area that is achy. The muscle is achy for a reason … meaning another muscle could be tight and stretching out the muscle that hurts. You’ll want to release the tight muscle to relieve the pain in the muscle being stretch. Since you don’t know what’s going on under the skin, work the other muscles that are around the achy one. Use your hands to feel out the area. Check bilaterally to make sure everything checks out. Then let the massager open up the entire area and see if you can locate other tight muscles and knots.

Types of attachments

  • Cushion – If you’re a beginner, the cushion attachment is meant for you. It features the softest material with largest surface area, and provides a little more “give” when using on tender spots or more sensitive areas like the neck.
  • Round – The round head attachment is one step up form the cushion attachment in terms of firmness. It provides roughly the same surface area, but the material is slightly more dense, so it works well on large muscle groups like quads, lats, and pecs.
  • Fork – The fork attachment is best used on paraspinal muscles, upper traps, forearms, and ankle/calves (without making contact with the achilles tendon). Some prefer having two points of contact on certain muscle groups to help against a “ticklish” feeling.
  • Flat – The flat attachment generally works best to cover a larger area on a denser muscle group such as hamstrings or glutes. The hard material does not absorb any of the percussion, allowing it to penetrate more deeply into the tissue
  • Bullet – The bullet attachment has the smallest surface area of all the head attachments. If you prefer deeper, more intense pressure, we recommend this attachment. Generally used for smaller/harder-to-reach muscle groups like the subscap and feet, as as more localized treatment in larger muscle groups.

Quick Notes:

The Hypervolt recharges fast and easy. We have never had an issue with the battery in the three years we have used it.

This is the original Hypervolt and it has since been replaced by upgraded versions that offer some pretty good upgrades. Everything you read in this review still applies to the new Hypervolt 2. The new Hypervolt 2 received the following upgrades:

  • lighter
  • More powerful
  • Newly designed ergonomic handle.
  • Same patented QuietGlide® technology

Hyperice also has an app for both iOS and Android. The app provides videos for massaging techniques in your selected area. You can customize routines and watch interactive videos with the world’s best athletes, trainers, and physiotherapists to guide you through their exclusive routines.

What people are saying

What they like:

“An awesome massager for every part of your body. Fast relief of sore muscles. Very quiet. Can be used before, during or after your workouts. Great battery life. Great customer service.”

What they don’t like:

Trouble connecting with Bluetooth. Expensive.

Conclusion

If you’re in the market for a massage gun for personal use or for your fitness business, the Hypervolt is a fantastic option. It is expensive but it’s an investment in your body or your clients that you won’t regret. It does a great job helping you warm up, get loose, stay loose, and accelerates recovery. You should always have a stretching program in your fitness routine to stay limber but the Hypervolt massager puts some life back in your years.
