Quite possibly the greatest cookie you will ever eat. These 6oz cookies have a golden, crispy outter shell with a perfected gooey center. There is a secret to how it’s done, that’s why it’s often replicated and never duplicated. The Chocolate Chip Walnut is the most popular but trust me … the Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip and Caramel Coconut Chocolate Chip are game changers. In addition, you will also find Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter, Oatmeal Raisin, Two Chip Chocolate Chip, vegan options and limited-time seasonal flavors.

The secret to how Levain makes their cookies is closely guarded. We have tried and alway fall short. We welcome you to give it a shot and see how close you can get. The dough is weighed out at 6oz per cookie and placed on a baking sheet. Good luck.
Experience
At the time of this review, the Levain Black & White cookies are exclusive to only their Flatiron location in NYC. Although new, this location is 10/10. The location itself is great, as it’s in an area that alive with NYC locals and minimal tourists.
Inside the bakery is fairly spacious for standing. There is very minimal room for seating, but the area is more about grab-and-g0 anyways. See photo below.
The staff is (per usual) excellent. The staff is super attentive, engaging and friendly. You can’t honestly ask for better service.
Review
Appearance
The Black & White cookie from Levain is a deep black, charcoal color with a speckle of the vanilla cream and chocolate spots on its surface. It’s large in size with a mountainous exterior. The cookie almost resembles the sacred lava rocks from the Hawaiian islands.
Touch
The cookie is heavy with its signature Goliath size of 6 ounces. To the touch, it’s buttery with gooey chocolate that leaves its mark on your hands.
Smell
The Levain Black & White Cookie smells of a dark, rich chocolate smell. The aromas resemble a childhood classic.
Taste
The first bite is a warm, rich chocolatey flavor that tastes exactly like a high-quality Oreo, but made for royalty. The chocolate is deep and profound, but it’s truly delicious. The salty, rich Oreo flavor is great, but it’s really set off by the thick, layered style of Levain Bakery. If you like Oreos, you’ll love this cookie. If you don’t like Oreos (you’re weird), you will still like this cookie.
