About: Schmackary’s
| Zachary Schmahl, known as “Schmackary” created his namesake bakery in 2012 out of his passion for baking and Broadway. Zach moved to NYC to pursue a dream in acting but, as luck would have it, created a cookie culture instead. Inspired by nostalgic childhood memories, Zach created a souped-up spin on cookie classics. These days Schmackary’s has more than 75 flavors, some of which include Funfetti, Maple Bacon, Cookies and Cream, Oatmeal Scotchie, Schmackaroni and Cheese, Sch’mores and Lucky Charmed to name a few. |
Chef's Note
Schmackary’s creates perfectly round and wonderfully constructed flat cookies. They do this by “smashing” the cookies, or flattening them, halfway through the baking process. This helps the cookie hold shape. They always smash with a large flat spatula.
Experience
Our experiences at Schmackary’s are always extremely positive. The main location in Midtown is decently sized with indoor seating. The staff is fantastic, always boasting an energetic and positive mood regardless of how chaotic the bakery gets. The cookies and treats are displayed deliciously behind the glass with many coffee options, hot chocolate, water and milk all available to order. You will get your goodies in a Schmackary’s box, or you can spend a little extra and buy a cool Schmackary’s tin.
Review
Appearance
The Schmackary’s Funfetti cookie is large, hefty and flat. Sprinkles decorate Schmackary’s famous frosting with colors varying on the season or celebrations they are observing.
Touch
The cookie has some weight to it. It feels a little dry with a slightly rough exterior. The icing is thick and applied generously.
Smell
The cookie gives off a buttery and sugary aroma because of the fragrance given off by the frosting.
Taste
Like all cookies from Schmackary’s, the first bite is soft and chewy. The flavor of the Funfetti cookie is sweet, a little salty but just right. The icing, of course, goes very well with all the cookie crumble in your mouth. Although it could be slightly sweet for some, we find that the ratio of cookie and frosting is rather addictive and makes for a great cheat day option. And like we always say, you’re gonna score with these cookies … and who doesn’t love to score?
What to Tell Your Friends
A soft and chewy cookie with the right ratio of frosting on top. Great for anyone who loves sugar cookies or craving something sweet.
