Tulie Bakery

Tulie Bakery opened in October 2008, in Salt Lake City, Utah. They are and known for their high-quality ingredients that accounts for their great-tasting croissants and other morning pastries, cakes, cookies, sandwiches, soups, and salads.

Owner Leslie Seggar is a self-taught chef that has mastered the art of her craft. Seggar came up with the idea after not being able to find a good-quality birthday cake for her son and named the bakery “Tulie” after her cat. By opening up Tulie Bakery, Seggar created a delicious, high-quality bakery in a location that was starving for one. And, as you would imagine, Tulie Bakery is very well known for exceptional cakes, in addition to flaky croissants.

Chef's Note

Like many great bakeries, Tulie Bakery brings high-quality ingredients, locally-sourced (when possible) ingredients to all of their items. Giving their customers fuller flavors and better textures.

Experience

Our first impression was that the bakery had New York City vibes. We say this as residents of NYC and frequents to NYC bakeries. It wasn’t so much the ambiance, but the types of food options available. Most notably, the Chocolate Bouchons and Financiers, which are popular in France, are also very NYC.

The employees are welcoming, attentive and polite. The bakery had plenty of visitors while we were there, making it feel like a top go-to bakery in Salt Lake City.

The Bakery was very clean. The layout of the treats on display were very simple. The lighting was bright with lots of natural lighting and overhead lamps at the counter. The bakery had a very industrial feel to it, giving it a spacious feel.

Review

Appearance

The shortbread cookies are square and golden in color, with a sprinkle of sugar to coat. They come in a clear bag of 12 cookies.

Touch

The cookies are light in weight, but slightly dense. They are sugary to the touch, but not overly buttery. The sugar from the cookie can be a little messy, leaving its mark all over your fingers.

Smell

Like most shortbread cookies, the smells are of light sugar with rich buttery aromas.

Taste

At first bite, the cookie is buttery and slightly crumbly. The flavors are profound, but not over the top. In other words, you’re not getting blasted with the flavors of shortbread. It’s more present and consistent through each bite.

We think the Tulie Shortbread Cookie rates well for quality of flavor, texture and appearance. It’s a great quality of cookie and you can enjoy on your cheat day or for a nice jolt of carbs with your morning coffee.

What to Tell Your Friends

This shortbread is one your grandma would make, but with a little more sophistication. Yeah, it’s good.
